The Trump administration on Tuesday placed sweeping tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China, the United States’ three largest trading partners. The result, economists and industry experts say, could be swift and noticeable: Depending on where they live, Americans can expect to pay an extra 20 cents per gallon of gas, an additional 50 cents for each avocado, and thousands more on new vehicles, almost immediately.
“We have cars landing tonight, which means tomorrow’s cars are going to be more expensive,” John Luciano, owner of Street Volkswagen in Amarillo, Texas, said Tuesday. “I’m not sure the consumer has caught on yet to how much cars are going to go up, but it’s going to be big.”

To lower prices you need a slowing demand and the ability to exceed demand.
Yes, there will be a shock for a while but the recovery will be well worth it....Trump even said that last night....you must have been in the closet clutching your pearls and weeping.

The CAUSE OF INFLATION is simple- TOO MANY DOLLARS chasing TOO FEW GOODS. THAT causes prices to increase and the VALUE OF MONEY to DECREASE. Tariffs DO NOT cause the value of money to decrease and without that 2nd part, you have NO INFLATION!! Government can print money and that causes the value of money to decrease. Supply chain issues can cause price increases and the value of money to decrease. A GOVERNMENT MANDATED wage hike can cause inflation. And since TARIFFS can actually cause a DECREASE IN DEMAND for goods with a tariff, the exact opposite of inflation CAN happen.
BUT TARIFFS ALONE do NOT cause inflation. PERIOD!!
