Roughly Half of Hired Crop Farmworkers Lack Legal Immigration Status

The share of hired crop farmworkers who were not legally authorized to work in the United States grew from roughly 14 percent in 1989–91 to almost 55 percent in 1999–2001; in recent years it has declined to about 40 percent. The devil is always in the details. "Hired" "Crop" farm workers is one niche in the agricultural food chain. More than 70% of ALL ag workers are US natives - this, according to your own source, which I accept as solid. Another big chunk are H2A or other visa workers, according to that same source. But your point is made. A far larger number of farm workers is undocumented than I had believed to be so. I stand corrected

That said, California is the big driver - I know not why. Obviously, Cali is a big ag state (59 BIL), and the bigger the state, the more of a driver it will be. But I'm talking PERCENTAGES here. Texas is also a big ag state (32 BIL), with only 14% of their farm workers undocumented - contrasted with 50% of California's. So it smells political at some level. Perhaps you can explain why a red state like texas has 14% illegals and a blue state like cali has 50%. I can't.

Here's another fun stat. Iowa ranks second in ag at 46.6 BIL. Only 6,000 migrant workers annually (and only some of those illegal), according to deep blue sources (https://iowastartingline.com/2021/04/05 ... m-workers/) - compared to what? 450,000 in Cali? Again, I cannot EXPLAIN this, but I do take note of it. It has that special california smell to it, in my perspective. It's a smell that makes me suspicious. It smells like fun with numbers. 
 
I stand by my opinion that ultimately, they are lying that we need illegals to pick our crops. It is possible that we need more visas - that I will grant. But we do not need illegals. We might soon, since the dollar is losing its cachet and might soon be humbled. But at this time, it appears that all we need is more visas. As I said, we issue over 300,000 farm visas annually. If cali needs more, it should simply petition the feds to ISSUE more. Something smells about all of this. Why the **** should we force agriculture to use illegals? And why doesn't Iowa have to use illegals? Why is the Texas number so low, relative to cali's? These are some pretty simple questions. In my experience, human beings are problem solving machines, So when problems are allowed to persist, my very first - and the very safest - assumption is that someone is getting something out of that problem's persistence.
