Jerrab, the only answer you gave that I don't entirely agree with is where you claim Jesus Christ did battle with evil during his life on earth. About the most you can say about that is that he got angry with the money-changers who were using the Temple, a holy place, to conduct business. And, you can say that Jesus battled evil by teaching the world to love and be kind as opposed to hate.
it is from the sermon on the mount.Skans » Today, 7:05 am » wrote: ↑ And, when did Christ preach what came to be known as the Golden Rule?

LOL! "the people". Jesus' people were the Jews, His people. He wasn't preaching to the Chinese, or the the Britons, or the Norsemen, and certainly not to the Romans. He was preaching from the Old Testament (much from the Book of Psalms). Most of what he said during in his Sermon on the Mount can also be found in the Old Testament. But, some things he said were stated differently. And, therein lies the beginning of Christianity.jerrab » 8 minutes ago » wrote: ↑ it is from the sermon on the mount.

Now, answer me this if you can, was Christ just making stuff up when he delivered the Sermon on the Mount, or was he referring to a text - something written long ago, while delivering a sermon to His people? Do you think he was referencing something from ancient Egypt in this sermon?
he pretty much said the old testament was wrong a few times.matthew 7Skans » Today, 8:18 am » wrote: ↑ LOL! "the people". Jesus' people were the Jews, His people. But, Jesus did not do battle against evil in the traditional sense during his time on earth. Nor did he defeat evil (during his lifetime), or even put much of a dent in it (although, perhaps he planted the seeds to eradicate evil in the future).
I see a lot of evil in the world. If Jesus were alive here on earth today, would people vote for him to be President of the United States? Doubtful. Mainly because that is not what we want or expect from a presidential leader who is supposed to protect our country from foreign threats.

Eye for Eye38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ from the old testament and it was moses who said an eye for an eye[h] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.Love for Enemies43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ from the old testament44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

However, said NOTHING about a wall around the Vatican
We were discussing the Golden Rule, its origins and therefore the Sermon on the Mount. I mentioned the Sermon on the Mount, because this is really the first time where the Golden Rule, as it is known today, was preached. Part of this discussion had to do with who Jesus was speaking to when he delivered it in northern Israel. But, of course you know this. And, you are definitely smart enough and studied enough to know who Jesus was speaking to.Cannonpointer » Today, 5:22 pm » wrote: ↑ No.
