Oh, they work. Democrats were enormous believers in tariffs, back then they represented workers.
But they are going to be quite painful. Americas' lives are absolutely going to get tougher, and the inflation of the Biden years is going to be SORELY missed by consumers. We are going to start calling eggs "ouefs," to class them up. The hair brushes we bought for a dollar at the 99cent store or dollar tree will be known as "brosse à cheveux" in the coming years - again, to add value and make the purchase less emotionally painful.
The US lost it s proxy war against Russia. That is exclusively what these tariffs and our hostility to our euro-trash client states is all about. I know, I know - you think NATO lost. But NATO is the US and the US is NATO. You would never have pretended that Poland was the USSR. It was IN the USSR, but RUSSIA was the USSR. RUSSIA was the east bloc - the Warsaw Pact. And the US is NATO, and NATO just got smoked like a cheap cigar in CoupKraine. And that is what the tariffs are about.
The US war machine is useless against Russia. NATO has relied on two things: Economic warfare against peers, and overwhelming firepower against pisspots and flyovers. Well, Russia is a peer - and the economic warfare failed. So Trump is taking the empire back to its beginnings. That means bringing home industry. And American consumers are ultimately going to pay for that.
