Although raccoons do eat them to cleanse their palate after slamming down garbage.
This use of a rural imaginary to pursue fascist aims also recalls Nathanael West’s biting satire of the Horatio Alger myth, A Cool Million (1934), written some seventy years before Roth’s novel. In that story, an American fascist party emerges during the Great Depression under a former president named Shagpoke Whipple who reemerges from retirement, touting the genius of the self-help myth. Shagpoke is all self-making without any moral scruples. He raises himself up from fame/infamy, all the while screwing everyone over in his midst as he builds his National Revolutionary Party. (His name implies a double screwing: shagging and poking.)DeezerShoove » 04 May 2025, 12:07 pm » wrote: ↑ Plus, you can make a Davey Crockett hat from the pelt.

As he explains to the hapless, Candide-like hero of the book, Lemuel Pitkin, “The time for a new party with the old American principles was, I realized, overripe. [Shag’s infelicity with language is wonderfully comical. It’s overripe all right.] I decided to form it; and so the National Revolutionary Party, popularly known as the “Leather Shirts,” was born. The uniform of our “Storm Troops” is a coonskin cap like the one I am wearing, a deerskin shirt and a pair of moccasins. Our weapon is the squirrel rifle” (110).

An off topic bit of **** to copy/paste... How inspiring.
Slugs are magnificent creatures. Very impressive. Unless we're talking the common garden slug. They suck. But the feral ones you find in the woods are quite beautiful, and very stately.DeezerShoove » 04 May 2025, 10:52 am » wrote: ↑ Slugs have very little imagination.

Many people are unaware that he had a retarded brother named Chuck Crockett who wore a possum skin cap. He was notorious for cowardice and incompetence. But Davey loved him like a brother. Like a retarded brother.DeezerShoove » 04 May 2025, 12:07 pm » wrote: ↑ Plus, you can make a Davey Crockett hat from the pelt.
Do you remember when RichCLEM was here, he used to PRETEND he cared about fiscal responsibility?Cannonpointer » 04 May 2025, 6:10 pm » wrote: ↑ Many people are unaware that he had a retarded brother named Chuck Crockett who wore a possum skin cap. It’s been SEVERAL YEARS since they even bothered to do that anymore. The facade was too heavy a burden
Why do Rethugs keep electing people like Mike Johnson to these leadership roles?Cannonpointer » 04 May 2025, 7:22 pm » wrote: ↑ Au contraire, mon frere.
All it requires for them to care deeply and passionately is a democ rat president.

The escargot type are just an excuse to get butter and garlic into your mouth. That is their function. Plus, they're snails. Not exotic at all in this hemisphere.DeezerShoove » 04 May 2025, 8:01 pm » wrote: ↑ Well, considering my reference, I don't believe I was thinking of the escargot type.
More like the squished snot blob you didn't see at first that used to be a slug on the rake handle.
Sounds like my battle with mice in my workshop.Cannonpointer » 04 May 2025, 8:37 pm » wrote: ↑ The escargot type are just an excuse to get butter and garlic into your mouth. That is their function. Plus, they're snails. Not exotic at all in this hemisphere.
I'm talking about forest slugs - gorgeous creatures, gentle-giant herbivores.
Now, I know they're only 4 or 5 inches long. But most of the creatures with which they share an economy are much smaller - making them giants. And they are exceptionally beautiful: almost translucent, with lovely patches of color. Their comings and goings across the rain forest floor used to give me hours of entertainment. I would select an area and decide that it was the entire known world - my temporary Serengeti. I would look at only the things in that domain. Shrinking my world thus, I elevated theirs, making all of the creatures in my selected square yard life-sized. And I would watch the busy-ness of the nameless creatures of my world, examining what they did and sorting why they did it. And from time to time, a forest slug would enter, traverse, disappear into the world that currently wasn't. And when that happened, it was almost as if trumpets were blowing. Compared to everything else in that square yard of forest floor, they were enormous and spectacular and colorful and beautiful. I hated to see them go.

Yup. You didn't start the war and neither did they. You both inherited it. It's been on since the advent of agriculture. It isn't personal on either side. But there's no calling it off and there's no neutrality. You're with humanity, or you're with the mice. I don't even kill snakes - because they eat mice.DeezerShoove » 04 May 2025, 9:33 pm » wrote: ↑ Sounds like my battle with mice in my workshop.
It's their domain. Until I show up... Gotta set the mine field.
When I bought the place, the previous guy was a lush and had all sorts of stuff mice eat or use.
Quite heavenly for the little bastards. The drunk was nice from neglect. I don't drink...![]()
Now, I'm not one to begrudge self preservation but when they ripped up a huge corner out of my stack of owner's manuals, **** all over my shiny clean tools, chewed insulation and padding off of anything soft... We began the Dance of Death.
I don't do poison for a couple of good reasons.
So, it's patch holes to keep the Ho Chi Minh Trail empty as possible and then traps.
I've never discovered every single entrance/exit and they learn to walk around traps.
It'll be the 50 Years War... On a tiny scale.

I have found that you can defeat them with cinnamon, eucalyptus, clove - a number of scents. Just poison the air with that ****, and they'll reside elsewhere.
