Inflation rates have improved for the third consecutive month despite tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.3% compared to the previous year, a slight decline from 2.4% in March. Tariffs, including 25% duties on steel and aluminum and import taxes on goods from major trading partners, were in place during this period.
Grocery prices decreased 0.4%, primarily due to a 12.7% drop in egg prices, the largest decline in household food costs since late 2020. Clothing costs fell 0.2%, while new car prices remained stable. Conversely, furniture costs increased by 1.5%.
