I would never want donations during difficult times. Infirmities truly wreck families economically. My own family has had similar battles. And in our case, most medical costs are on us 100%, because most of what we do bypasses the wall street chain of command, using private sector medical solutions which do not profit the machine - i.e., "alternative medicine."
You mention diversity. I do not think that word means what you think it means. Allow me to illuminate with a tale of three cities.
There are three communities on the gulf of mexico, removed from each other by two hundred-plus miles. Each of these three communities came about in different ways and at different times. All three communities are caucasian communities - with whites being between ninety-four and a hundred percent of the population in each.
Community "A" was settled by French Quebeqois escaping the British military be fleeing down the Mississippi River. It relies on commercial fishing and shrimping, with a sideline of tourism based on charter boats. The charter industry keeps two restaurants on the wharf going strong. Its residents speak perfect English when they choose, but they often fall into a French/English patois called "Cajun" after its Arcadian (Quebecois) derivation. They use this dialect especially in the presence of outsiders, as a means of exclusion. They're a bit insular. Their diet is influenced by French cuisine combined with heavy spices which were needed during their founding to preserve their food and keep it safe. The community is almost entirely Roman Catholic by faith.
Community "B" was settled by a party of German immigrants in the mid 1800s. It relies on farming, with shrimping and oystering as a secondary economic support. Virtually no one in the community speaks German today, but the local dishes show a pronounced influence from their settlement roots. The Lutheran Church looms large in this community, with weekly pot-lucks and youth activities. Spring Easter egg hunts and Fall hay-rides are big doings, and there's a business in town that purchases and restores distressed pianos which ship in and out on a regular basis, providing a half dozen jobs and ample opportunities to learn the piano. A bigger than usual percentage of people play the piano quite well in this community.
Community "C" was settled by a hodgepodge of native-born Euro-Americans from British, Irish, Scottish, and French extraction shortly after the Louisiana Purchase. It's economic backbone is lumbering, and there's a signifcant sideline in raising and processing beef. The town has four churches: First Baptist, First Methodist, a Pentacostal church, and a small A.M.E. church that serves the 6% of the population which is black. Every year there's a fair that includes contests of skills in the lumber industry, and the winner is crowned King of the Woods. Youngsters learn to hunt early, and the townfolks hunt often. The local cuisine is not much different than other cuisines in the region, except that there are quite a few unique game dishes and smoked game meats.
There. We have our communities. And we have our reaction to those communities.
In YOUR vision of diversity, each and every one of these communities needs the same prescription, with emphasis on the "pre." What's required is some busloads of immigrants and africanized americans to diversify these cracker communities. In MY vision of diversity, we should celebrate each of these communities for its unique culture, and tiptoe through these communities if we visit, so as not to behave as invasive species.
There is the disconnect. The left just doesn't want to play the ball where it lays. It needs to fix everything, to meddle, to correct - like a dithering nanny. I prefer to smell the flowers.
