While stationed in Germany in the late 1970s we had an ongoing "War Game" known as REFORGER. 
NATO countries from all over the world took part in what was a chance to live in the eastern woods of west Germany and take target practice all day every day with field artillery.
There was even a sub Saharan African nation that sent a squad of soldiers [to mosey around and watch the soldiers from  the "developed nations"  do their jobs].
Those African soldiers wore all sorts of medals and decorations on their daily work uniforms [that are known as  "fatigues"]...it looked ridiculous.
Those Africans looked like children playing "dress up" while wearing their parent's clothes.
They were all so tall and skinny and blacker than black with yellow / blood shot eyes
One morning I woke up and headed into the latrine tent where the troops ****&shampooed.
To my disbelief [I'm just half awake] I found one of the African Troops squatting in the sink where we washed our faces, shaved and brushed our teeth AND HE WAS TAKING A DUMP...!!!!     
By now another guy from my platoon has wandered in and he is laughing along with me and shaking his head in disbelief. I think my guy was  a wee bit embarrassed because he was a Black American.

I used the floor toilet like that in France. Interesting . . .

The Chinese didn't learn how to use a toilet until about a generation ago.
