Yeah, I can't wade through all that ****. Make your case.

YOU are against the tariffs.
ORBAN is against the tariffs.
But somehow, you're right and Orban is wrong?

Orban's "crime" against the system is that he defends the sovereignty of the nation-state. That's it. And I side with Orban on that.

What is YOUR problem with Orban - in your own words?

Edit - I clicked the Brazil link. Looks like you're getting all born again on those tariffs. Looks like you're siding with Trump - because the Bolsonaro argument is HIS, and you're linking to it to defend your argument (being generous).

What in the post to which I respond here sustains your OP or your thread title? You SEEM to be hitting yourself. Stop hitting yourself.

The post he responded to - YOUR post - seems to lose sight of that. It SEEMS to be an argument against the tariffs. Or at minimum a side argument against your OP's allies. WTF?

Nothing wrong with being sanguine about taxes - even new ones. I engage in a good bit of sanguinity myself - like when they slapped a hundred dollar penalty on my annual registration of my Prius.I was cool with it. I understood that gas taxes pay for roads, and I was beating the system, so the system was play catch up.

But when the new tax is a consumption tax out of the blue, imposed by a republican who promised to CUT your taxes, and it is being imposed on a whim with none of the promised tariff-related jobs in the offing, I think sanguinity is an ersatz condition - a pretense adopted in order to be opposition to the child danger you are addressing.

It ought to concern you. It is a shot over the bow of the people who put Trump in office - a big "**** you, you are too stupid to feel my dick in you."

You people are such **** idiots..

The son of Brazil's former President Jair Bolsonaro has praised US President Donald Trump for imposing huge tariffs on his home country - and warned more measures could be on the way.

Eduardo Bolsonaro - who is an elected Congressman in Brazil - spoke to the BBC in Washington, where he has been on a months-long lobbying campaign to convince the Trump administration to punish the Brazilian authorities for putting his father on trial on coup charges.

The congressman said there could be more sanctions on individuals. "There's a very significant possibility regarding the application of sanctions and the extension of Magnitsky sanctions to other people. You have on Secretary Marco Rubio's desk, for example, the possibility of withdrawing visas, among other pressure mechanisms, to try to get Brazil out of this institutional crisis we're experiencing."

At the White House Thursday, President Trump doubled down accusing Brazil of being a bad trade partner. He wrongly claimed the US runs a trade deficit with Brazil. Last year, it ran a $7.4 billion trade surplus with Brazil

He went onto defend Jair Bolsonaro:

"It's really a political execution that they're trying to do with Bolsonaro. I think that's terrible." The former president is accused of plotting a coup to prevent the man who beat him in the 2022 presidential election, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, from taking office.

Jair Bolsonaro has denied that he led an attempt to overthrow the government but acknowledged taking part in meetings aimed at reversing his election loss.
A verdict in the case is expected in the coming weeks. If found guilty, Jair Bolsonaro could face decades in prison.

US IMPORTERS MUST ALWAYS PAY THE TARIFFS. If someone else WANTS to pay them, they're perfectly welcome to WRITE THAT CHECK. But you have not shown and WILL not show that happening.

Here's the fact, stupid: UNTIL THE TARIFF IS PAID, THE GOODS DO NOT LEAVE CUSTOMS.

Now, just use your **** google and get off my dick with this clowing.
I don't need Google to explain to me what I learned around the 8th grade, nitwit!

So why can't you get it through your fat head that if a country devalues their currency so that an importer DOES NOT PAY ONE PENNY MORE because of the tariff, THEN WHO IS TAKING ON THE COST OF THAT TARIFF?  If that tariff is ABSORBED BY CHINA when they devalued their currency, and it costs the US importer THE EXACT COST THE ITEM WAS before EITHER the new tariff OR the devaluation of their currency, THEN WHO ACTUALLY PAID IT?  The US is getting that amount of the tariff BECAUSE OF THE DEVALUATION, NOT BECAUSE the importer is paying anything extra!
CHRIST, but you're dumb!!!

And while we're exploring the depths of your supreme ignorance, how the hell is it a "reaction" if I have an OPINION on whether or not currency devaluation is a good or bad thing?  Or should we just chalk that up to yet another word you're unable to understand?  I'm starting to believe you must have even failed Lunch when you went to school!

Oh I'm quite aware. We had a "great" republican governor in Michigan that slapped some of the partisan hackery out of us.
John Engler gave us a  choice (NOT raising taxes wasn't one of them):

His push went something like this.
A) Raise property taxes 30%
-or-
B) Raise sales taxes a mere 2 cents.

Well, of course the stupid public went for the tiny 2 cent raise. Who doesn't have that?

Meanwhile, if Engler had used the SAME UNIT OF MEASURE to compare them, it would be bad.
Sales tax was 4 cents and went to 6 cents. A 50% increase to the public morons.

That's a big little word.

Using math - you know how to do that, - defend that claim. But if you CAN defend that claim, which I heartily doubt, you cannot do it ON TOPIC, you fruit. Look up the page a few inches. Read the title.

Still, I am quite interested in you making the case for the off-topic side conversation you began about Chyna. I don't believe you can.

You are claiming that Chyna's currency manipulation - which you USED to SCREECH against, just a few months ago, and are now presenting as a GOOD thing, a win for Trump - has utterly disappeared the cost of tariffs, bringing the tariff cost to American consumers to a net zero.

That interests me. Because if that is true, Trump can make a strong case that the tariffs are in fact a sanction against Chyna at no cost to Americans. That would be a bold stroke on his part - something that I, as an American, would have to stand up and salute. And because I never screeched against currency manipulation, I could do ti without all that hypocrisy that mars YOUR argument.

Make that case. But do it in english, using dewey's decimal system, and with a modicum of adverbial dross, please. I have limits. Once I see you going into endless ad homs, my reading eyes go south and my responding fingers get busy.

There IS a thing your younger self overlooked, though. Michigan ranks rather high in tourism - and TOURISTS - along with Michiganers - are tapped by the sales tax.

When I lived in South Carolina and was faced with an identical choice, I voted for the sales tax increase. I did that even though I did not own property there, understaning that as a renter, I would be paying that extra tax.

The state has to operate. Doing so on other people's funds is mighty nice.

Stupid answer twice. A Prius is not an EV, and I did not buy it to save the environment. I bought it INSTEAD of the Camry I was looking at because it was a better value for my dollar - no other reason.

OK, if that's what it takes to get through that thick skull of yours, it's no problem!

Let's say China has an item that sells for $1 before any tariff or any devaluation of their currency.
Now, Trump puts a 10% tariff on that item, which would bring the cost to an importer up to $1.10.
In response, China DEVALUES THEIR CURRENCY by 10%, dropping their price on that $1 item to 90 cents for an importer if there was no tariff on it.  But the 10 cent Trump tariff brings the price back up to $1 that a US importer must now pay, JUST EXACTLY AS BEFORE!  Trump STILL GETS THE 10% tariff, even though the importer is now paying the same $1 for that item before either the tariff or the China devaluation went into effect, simply because China has absorbed that 10% tariff!  The US importer pays NOTHING MORE, and because China devalued their currency, they are now getting 10 cents LESS for that $1 item FROM THE ENTIRE WORLD they're exporting it to, since they cannot limit that devaluation of the Yuan only to American importers!

Now, since it seems to bother you so much, what the **** difference does it make whether or not I approve of China devaluing their currency, simply because I stated what they did?  Do you also fail to understand that what you call "hypocrisy" on my part is nothing of the kind?  You ARE aware that China has ALREADY devalued their currency, aren't you?  So how does it matter what I support or detest when discussing how that policy is being used?  All that a moron like you is trying to do is to obscure the facts with irrelevant ****, and you think everyone on the forum is as dumb as you and can't recognize your act for what it is?

And lo and behold, we discover yet ANOTHER term that you have zero understanding of!
The Dewey Decimal System is nothing more than the classification system used by libraries, and has NOTHING TO DO with math, tariffs, or the devaluation of currency.

As I've told you, you've already surpassed your allowable ignorance for one week, so please don't bring forth any more examples of your failed education to the forum.  You've proven here that you apparently have NO limits when it comes to your own stupidity!

Humans, therefore, arguably possess the widest spectrum of behaviors along the Krakauer definition of intelligence. We are capable of the most astonishing feats of cognition, externalized outside our minds across vast stretches of time and space. But we are also capable of breathtaking stupidity, imagining that it’s a good idea to turn over a nuclear arsenal to Donald Trump, or, at the delightful pinnacles of human beclowning, that we can camouflage ourselves by making our faces invisible with lemon juice.

I listen to Sole's Girlfriend.  She makes Zeets2 look like a pimple on your secret childless cat lady on the side's azz.
The premise that a 10% currency devaluation can perfectly and automatically offset a 10% tariff, leaving the final import price unchanged and burdening only the exporting country, is overly simplistic. While a weaker currency can mitigate the impact of tariffs, real-world economics involve complex dynamics that complicate this neat formula.
Here's a breakdown of the economic factors at play:
  • Tariffs are not the sole factor in price. The cost an importer pays depends on both the export price and the exchange rate. For a Chinese exporter, selling a $1 item for 90 cents (due to devaluation) means they lose profit on every export sale globally, not just to the U.S.. However, in your example, the U.S. importer still pays the original $1 price, with the U.S. government collecting the 10-cent tariff. The U.S. importer's cost for the item itself is unchanged, but the Chinese exporter is absorbing the tariff's cost through devaluation.
  • Consumers still face price increases. The premise that U.S. importers pay nothing more assumes the entire burden of the devaluation is passed on. In reality, retailers may raise prices to cover their higher operational costs and to hedge against future volatility. Price increases tend to follow in the months after a tariff is implemented, not instantaneously.
  • Currency devaluation has other consequences. Devaluing the Yuan makes all Chinese exports cheaper for every country, not just the U.S. This could start a "currency war," where other nations retaliate with their own devaluations to stay competitive. Such a scenario risks global trade instability and can lead to inflation within the devaluing country, as imports become more expensive for its own citizens.
  • Market forces vs. government intervention. The user's prompt suggests an immediate and perfect 10% devaluation in response to a 10% tariff. However, China's central bank controls the Yuan's exchange rate within a semi-fixed system, meaning they can influence, but not necessarily fully control, its value. While China did allow the Yuan to weaken during previous trade disputes, the devaluation was a market-driven response and not a perfectly timed, one-to-one offset.
  • Macroeconomic effects are complex. Tariffs, exchange rates, and monetary policy affect the entire economy. As seen in the U.S.-China trade war, both sides imposed and retaliated with various trade barriers. The ultimate effects can include reduced global trade, weakened growth, and increased economic uncertainty.
In short, while currency devaluation can blunt the impact of tariffs, the situation is not as simple as the prompt suggests. Both the U.S. and China experience repercussions from these policies, with final prices for consumers, the stability of global trade, and domestic economic conditions all subject to complex, interdependent effects

And that Cracker Barrel took the white dude off their logo.  They could have left the barrel for laughs.

What I think is important is that 15 year old girl beaned big balls in the face, and it was the gulf of tonkin for America to Invade America. How facism came to America so easily is freaky.

We live in a Police State now. And a girls punch was the seed.
