When you complain, ur friends roll their eyes and ur enemies rejoice

"Because I SAY I am" is a todler's tantrum, not "science"

You cannot betray me - only yourself, to me.

Oh, for a minute there I thought you recognized the freedom for everyone to pursue happiness  as they see fit..

How is MAGA a pursuit of happiness?.   They thrive on hate, discontent, and divisive dysfunctionality.  They do have that right.  But taking mine away in the process is unacceptable.

No, it doesn't. Just seems odd to complain about 2.5/3% inflation after what we just went through.

I hear ya on the increases coming down on us. Our homeowners insurance spiked 34% and umbrella policy went up 68%. The first page of the policy is a thank you note for our loyalty, they don't know me very well! I'll be shopping today on principle alone.

Property tax only went up $12.

America is not the only country in the world that is considered free. Supposedly, both Americans and people around the world want to live "The American Dream."

What exactly is that?
The American Dream is the belief that anyone can achieve success and prosperity through hard work and determination, regardless of their background, rooted in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. While historically often associated with owning a home and achieving social mobility, the definition has evolved to encompass a broader pursuit of happiness, opportunity, and a better life for oneself and one's family.
Core Components
  • Opportunity:
The belief that the United States provides a social order where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
  • Meritocracy:
Success is based on an individual's ability and hard work, not their circumstances of birth.
  • Upward Mobility:
The ability to improve one's socioeconomic status and provide a better future for the next generation.
  • Pursuit of Happiness:
A right to pursue a fulfilling and happy life, as outlined in the Declaration of Independence.
Historical Context
  • Origin:
The concept is linked to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence, specifically the "pursuit of happiness".
  • James Truslow Adams:
The phrase "the American Dream" was coined by historian James Truslow Adams in his 1931 book, Epic of America
  • Horatio Alger Jr.:
The rags-to-riches stories of this author further encapsulated the ideal of individual success through hard work.
Evolution of the Dream
  • Traditional vs. Modern:
While owning a home remains a common desire, recent generations increasingly view other elements, like renting a home or simply achieving financial stability and safety, as integral to the dream.
  • Challenges:
Economic downturns, rising costs, and systemic inequalities have made achieving the traditional American Dream, particularly homeownership and upward mobility, more difficult for many.
  • Immigrant Perspective:
For many immigrants, the American Dream is a promise of safety, freedom from violence and persecution, and a better, more secure life for their children.

I thin it is great they fight amongst themselves.  They are not goose steppers like todays progressives.
