When you place a yuge 50% tarrif on one third of the coffee market, you force that supply chain to raise the price dramatically. Even if the brokers eat a big piece of the tariff - a yuge if, that - still, the price has to jump. People don't stop eating because trump is mad a brics.
Now, when that price jumps by 50%, the rest of the market is suddenly underpriced. Traffic will allow a 30 percent jump, easily. Because they are still cheap by comparison, and the element called "competition" is thrown out of the game. Let's say that the brokers of the brazillian eat half of the tariff. They won't. But let's pretend. That is STILL a 25% increase placed on a full third of the coffee market. Then the rest of the market only raises the cost by 12 to 15%.
That's the inflationary aspect of these whimsically applied tariffs. The tariffs were SUPPOSED to bring jobs home - not pull new taxes out of my **** pocket.
Do you remember, as I do, when repukes were AGAINST raising taxes? Can you tell me the specific date when you decided that you were FOR raising taxes - even to the point of DEFENDING the raising of your taxes?
