John RatcliffeJohn Ratcliffe, the current Director of the CIA under the second Trump administration, was repeatedly labeled a "Trump stooge" by Democrats during his prior service as Director of National Intelligence from 2020 to 2021.
Political loyalty: Critics claimed Ratcliffe's main qualification for the position was his "blind loyalty" to Donald Trump. They cited his aggressive defense of Trump during his first impeachment and his questioning of former special counsel Robert Mueller's report.
Politicizing intelligence: As DNI, Ratcliffe was accused of politicizing the intelligence community. In 2020, he declassified Russian disinformation about Hillary Clinton that had been rejected as baseless by the Senate Intelligence Committee. Critics said this move was an attempt to help Trump's reelection campaign.
