In the 1960s, Oil will be gone in 10 years.
In the 1970s, there will be another ice age in 10 years.
In the 1980s, acid rain will kill all crops in 10 years.
In the 1990s, the ozone layer will be gone in 10 years.
In the 200s, the ice caps will be gone in 10 years. 
In the 2010s, climate change will finsih off humanity in 10 years. 

None of it happened: But it all resulted in more taxes along with politicians and big corps making a fortune.
