We are a Christian Nation, their religion calls for death to Jews and Christians.

That is a blanket statement. As a whole, they do not believe that. There are some passages in Islamic scripture that are harsh against Jews and Christians, but extremists will cherry pick those passages, with any historical context, and call for the deaths of Jews and Christians. It's not a mainstream teaching in their religion.
