I am not persuaded that he was shot from behind. I have ethically harvested deer at a distance of 200 yards using my .308 Ruger American Predator, and the damage inflicted on the animal was significantly greater than what we have observed or been informed. A .30-06 caliber cartridge utilizes the same bullet as a .308, but it features a longer casing and contains more powder.
There exists a video that depicts an individual shooting him from a close distance, at a slight angle. This individual is gripping the railing. There is no visible flash. I suspect that this was a projectile discharged from a high-pressure air-powered device.
