I think Obama actually favored gay rights all along, but did not say so when he was first running, as he did not wish to debate it. Any sane presidential candidate would do the same.

As for Trump, he is an opportunist with zero principles and has only two paramount issues: the fame and fortune of Donald Trump.

Being FOR rights and being AGAINST rights are opposite things.
