AND YES - Russia is resource rich. They do not require the favor of the western world. Indeed, the favor of the west would only make their people weak - at a time when the world needs Russians to be Russians.
Russians over the years have rarely put up any fight to oppose tyrants and corrupt kleptocrats.
Russia is not a very successful country. Despite all their resources, huge parts of Russia are very poor very miserable third world backwaters wihout even potable water or electricity. The population is shrinking, Life expectancy is declining. Putin's government is a corrupt kleptocracy.
