Clearly, it does not. There was a tradition to play the National Anthem at HS sports games and to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, I think they started doing this after the US joined WWI, because the loyalty of German and Austrian immigrants was questioned. Because of this tradition, the MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA started doing the same thing.  But major league sports are not patriotic events, unless perhaps some Canadian team is playing.
