Anyone who can afford to put away $18,000/year almost certainly isn't middle class, liar.
$100K isn't "middle class?" ROFL. 2 teachers each working for $50K a year is $100K.

**** idiot.

$100K Gross Income

~40% goes to taxes (federal/local/state, assuming they live in a "high tax" blue state and using the highest tax estimates) = $60K remaining

Family of 3 with expenses ~$35K (assuming family doesn't live in SF/Seattle/NY and budgets properly): $25K remaining AFTER taxes + expenses. I didn't even include employer contributions.

So how is it they cannot contribute $18K a year to a retirement account?

And you have the gall to accuse of people of failing to understand "basic economics..." when you cannot even understand "basic math"
