Yes, there is a lot to what you say. Pure materialism -- the belief that all there is, is little particles combining and separating -- can't begin to explain consciousness. I personally also believe that the orthodox explanation of evolution is inadequate.
However, that doesn't mean that there is an invisible man in the sky watching us.
But ... it doesn't matter. I have a million times more in common with a patriot who is a fundamentalist, than with another atheist who hates America.
I definitely do not want to start an argument about religion here. Just to point out to the non-believing Lefties here that there are plenty of non-believers who also don't believe in the Leftist utopia.
