The offer from Schumer was immediately rejected and rightly so. For once the Republicans are standing firm which is a bit of a surprise.
If you didn't know, it was the Biden administration that put the expiration date on the extra subsidies, not Republicans. I would bet the majority of people that went on the ACA exchange over the last several years had no idea they were getting an enhanced subsidy. Waiting until a funding bill to sound the alarm by Democrats is pretty lame. Throw in a 30% increase in healthcare costs since 2020 and apparently the only answer to prop up Obamacare is to throw more money at it. The insurance companies couldn't agree more!
The younger crowd probably doesn't remember the Obamacare Mandate. Wonder how they would feel about that in this environment. Democrats have pushed the envelope twice now with Mandates which make the party dangerous in my opinion. What next?
While Obamacare appears to be falling on its face years later, there was a silver lining for the more affluent crowd. The explosion of HSA's provided a tax haven for households that could squirrel away extra cash. Our HSA balance is over $90k, thanks Obama!
The cost of entitlements go up with inflation, there no way around that math.
obomba was a boondoggle for heath insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies
and they are among the biggest donors to both parties
but it keeps premiums low for the millions of needy Americans
we give hundreds of billions to other countries that have universal healthcare
trillions to the military industrial complex
trillions for tax cuts
everyone knows people that depend on those subsidies, and food stamps
this is a hill that republicans will die for to placate the oligarchs ?
good luck with that in 26
the one percent has a majority of the money
but not the votes
