Roster CIB
Requirements: The entire unit must have met the eligibility criteria for the duration of the deployment.
Documentation: Names are compiled on a roster, which is then attached to a single DA Form 638 (Recommendation for Award) for the entire unit.
Validation:
Less stringent on an individual-by-individual basis; assumes everyone on the, for example, company-level, deployment roster was present for the same combat actions.
Key Distinctions. Individual vs. Collective:
The individual CIB focuses on you being under fire; the roster CIB focuses on the unit being under fire.
Documentation Risks:
Roster submissions can sometimes lead to the improper award of the CIB to soldiers who were not in the qualifying infantry unit or who did not personally engage in combat.
