The founding fathers were attempting to create a blueprint that would allow for the election of the president without political parties and without national campaigns ........... that was then.

Now we have mountains of unethical, criminal and fraudulent campaigns, mountains of voter suppression and mountains of dark dark dark money. Corruption has changed the landscape enormously thus has rendered the Electoral College fraudulent, unworkable and no longer practical.
