Tell me again how the people decide to exercise their liberty by co-funding the fire department. Does it have to be 100% of the populace that decides to exercise their liberty in that way before the fire department is established? Do people in your town have the liberty to opt out of fire protection? Do they have the opportunity to opt out of having the policeman drive by their house at night and do those people pay less taxes? Or are those decisions made by a majority of citizens present and voting? Like in a ... wait for it... wait for it.... like in a DEMOCRACY???? You know what's so dang funny is that YOU think that your "rights" and "liberty" come FROM government!!.
Whereas the founders of this nation believed that YOUR RIGHTS were inherently yours and that GOVERNMENT could only impose THEIR WILL with the PERMISSION OF THE PEOPLE. In other words, you don't get to form any police of fire department WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE. PERIOD!! NOR can they build roads, or tax or do ANY of the things governments notoriously imposed on the people UNLESS there was CONSENT BY THE PEOPLE to do those things.
Now, mr. mainegrl, run along now that you got SCHOOLED on what the LIBERTIES OF THIS NATION ACTUALLY MEAN, dumbarse!!
So people give their consent, at the town meeting, OR AT THE BALLOT BOX, to create fire departments or public works departments, or police departments, or LEGISLATURES.... that they CONSENT to allow to make all sorts of decisions on their behalf. It's called... wait for it... A REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY. And if the members of that legislature that the people give their consent to don't do things the right way, a majority of the PEOPLE who take the time to vote can vote them out and vote in someone else. And when those people in the LEGISLATURE that the people CONSENTED TO and VOTED FOR write laws and establish bureaucracies, we the people abide by them... like, Social Security, or Medicare, or Obamacare... or the Freedom of Marriage Act. Those programs exist because the majority of the people, acting through their elected representatives, created them. And when those LEGISLATURES that the people CONSENTED TO and A MAJORITY VOTED FOR pass laws that create systems managed by the government, that isn't SOCIALISM, it's DEMOCRACY. And Democracy is rarely, if ever, unanimous... so that means that, when laws are passed, there are always gonna be whiners - like you - who HATE the new health care law, or hate the color of the new police cruisers, for that matter. Tough ****. Majority rules. Don't like it? leave. THAT is how the consent of the people works, ****.
