You ARE required to pay for the fire department, however. You and every other citizen of the town, whether you chose to call them when your house is on fire or not. The government neither owns nor controls the health care system and NOBODY is required to enroll in anything if they don't want to. So...we have one independent senator who's proposed a bill that has zero chance of even coming to a vote in the Senate let alone pass in the house and you acting like it's a **** fait accompli ???? And you never answered the question about government ownership. If America is pure socialism which, by definition means that the government owns the means of production...what is it that the NYSE is selling every day if it isn't shares of ownership in the means of production of the American economy? Pure socialism? Hell... the ONLY portion of the healthcare system that is owned by the government is the VA. Even this "pure socialist health care system" you are whining about is owned by HMO's and PPOs and for-profit hospitals and insurance agencies and and and....CERTAINLY not Uncle Sam.
