I was not sleeping during civics class. I know that politics is a team sport. I know that majorities of members in legislative chambers are required to coalesce around proposals in order for those proposals to become laws. The two different "teams" on the playing field in our lifetime have been the democrats and the republicans. The last time a party other than those two held a significant number of supports in America was the Whig Party of the 1830's-50's. Since then, the two party D vs. R contest is the template under which all legislation is passed. Second, I don't vote for scumbags. I vote issues - which I first research. For example, I once voted against legal marijuana - even though I am pro choice across the board, up to and including mothers murdering their nascent offspring. The reason? It was being legalized in a sleazy manner, to head off NORML's initiative.
I vote for people sometimes, too. But they are rarely party creatures.
I never voted for trump. He was a bag of gas, and he showed his colors on the vax.
