I can relate to your point. I have been homeless.
Lived in my car (a $75 Dodge) a long, long time ago.
There's a sense of freedom in that, though.
You can't lose much if you have nothing.
But now I have "stuff".
The beauty of having been so low at one time is that I do not have the fear of the unknown.
I could lose everything and not be panicked by it End of the world? Maybe. Maybe not.
I prefer having stuff, though.
Some people don't have any problem debasing themselves daily.
That "feeling free from material goods" is a fleeting sensation, however. A pretense.
You aren't really "stickin' it to the man" when you're forced to sleep in his refrigerator box.
same here, I have been utterly broke and sleeping in my car before, it sucks. As long as one manages to keep their health and freedom, and sanity (avoid bad addictions), he/she has the riches of life. Material wealth in some degree will always follow from there, so poverty is just not that scary to me, but I am more driven and money hungry this year than I have ever been
