It’s a cult of personality. A person, in this case Trump, becomes like a religion, replacing previously held belief systems, superceding all -isms. Trump can literally do no wrong. He has become a father figure to them.
It is derived from the perceived, and mostly true, ballsiness of Trump. Unlike most politicians, he says whatever is on his mind. That kind of freedom inspires admiration. Many wish their whole lives that they could live with that kind of boldness, being authentic. But they can’t, they are cowed by their wife, their boss, their parents, etc. so in Trump they can live vicariously, imagining they were that way. And they love him for that.
That’s my armchair psychology take.
