the outward expression of political beliefs is a manifestation of two things
1. The character of the individual, and his/her natural inclinations
2. The submissiveness and/or intellectual laziness of the individual
those in the US who identify with either major party (Dems or Repubs) and spew their talking points, display the second point I mentioned. Independents show more of the first.
those who lean more conservative somehow identify with Republicans, despite the Overton window being dragged so far that 1970s liberals were more conservative on social issues than todays Republicans. They also suffer from two major flaws; lack of imagination and worship of individualism.
I grew up in the 1980s, I saw action movies where Rambo or Bruce Lee or Arnold Schwarzenegger Commando defeats and kills entire military bases of bad guys, displaying the power of the mighty individual over a group. This theme was totally absent from American film from the 1930s thru the late 1960s, then exploded in the 70s and 80s when it became ubiquitous in ALL Hollywood action films.
I wonder if the time frame in question correlates with a certain ethnic group gaining total control of Hollywood.. but I digress.
this shift in film, to downplay collectivism while glorifying individualism was in part, an attempt to brainwash an entire generation.. my generation.
