He lets these lots sit idle for a generation of man, because the tax is miniscule and the productive efforts of his neighbors continually improve the value of his land. He can use his capital elsewhere, realizing significant gains entirely passively on the backs of his busy neighbors. THEIR EFFORTS - NOT HIS - advance his fortunes.
We suggest taxing that antisocial activity out of existence, and they reflexively accuse US of having entitlement mentality. In truth, the fellow holding land idle to capitalize on his neighbors' enterprise and sweat is the one with entitlement mentality - and currently, he IS entitled. LVT would end that entitlement.
this issue is also why many can’t see that overpopulation is NOT a problem. With the right tax scheme, populations would generate wealth and abundance exponentially, infinitely
