It more of a mistrust of human nature. Putting a perfect system (on paper) right in front of us is no guarantee we could actual produce the result.
Having some huge auction that would probably many years to complete, election cycles, the world still **** around not waiting for us, etc., just seems like a fantastically huge event.
Doesn't mean it wouldn't be worth it; I don't know.
