The 80's was the "Me" decade after all. Probably somebody noticed it then too.
There were no stark revelations or new views warranting "explanations" taking up page after page...
The moral of the story: People suck and aren't getting any better.

The news is that culture has great influence on values. For example, an Amish village has a culture, as does a convent and a monastery. Those cultures do not place greed as the highest virtue over faith, purity, industry, loyalty. thrift etc..
In fact. Most cultures do not elevate greed as the singular value paramount. Only conservatives and Jews do that
