This fascinating Forbes article tells what is known about a secret operation conducted by Obamas ATF that armed Mexican drug cartels with US automatic weapons

There can be a lot of speculation as to the why, but I think I know a few reasons
1. To terrify the Mexican citizens thereby creating refugees and forcing them to migrate north to the US.. the browning of America is paramount
2. To push the narrative that more gun control is needed, as they secretly order agents to let these illegal firearms "walk" . A do not detain policy was in force.
3. To cause general mayhem and havoc as the cartel gang members murder and mutilate their rivals and citizens as well.. American policy has always favored killing children
