I own too many guns to count them (I was a Republican until 20 years ago) and if you want the ultimate outdoors handgun, the best in the world, it’s the limited run Ruger 44 Special Flattop.
I own a pair, regular grip 4 3/4 barrel, worked slightly by a master gunsmith.

44 Special factory ammo all sucks. It’s low pressure, even the best.
I bought 1,000 Starline 44 Special cases and I’ve bought thousands of Missouri Bullet Company 240 grain Keith bullets.

90% of what I shoot are called Skeeter Skelton loads
7 1/2 grains of Unique under a 240 grain Keith bullet
10% I mark with a black magic marker on the primer.
Those are Kieth loads, you look it up. They are hot. They’ll wear your gun out if you feed them a constant diet.
The Skeeter load is deadly accurate to 400 yards, yes, 400 yards.
It runs out about 975 feet per second.
A .357 Magnum is pissy, by comparison.
They shoot clean through a deer.
Why not a 44 Mag?
Weight and size
The Colt Peacemaker is the perfect outdoors revolver.
But Ruger makes a better Colt, than Colt.
