It's better to be safe about it. This guy would be alive if he was vaccinated. Period. A mask is not a straight jacket. It's a simple thing to wear, and the data shows that it does work. Yes, most of those who are in danger are the elderly. But I would like to think that we should be compassionate enough to protect them by having all of us not get infected. If a young guy is infected, he could infect an elderly person. Sure, the young guy will be fine, but the elderly person that he/she has infected has a greater probability of becoming deathly ill. Why not get vaccinated to protect the elderly?
I think people should be vaccinated for their own safety, and not for how being unvaccinated would affect anyone else. We need to acknowledge the fact that the vaccine has not yet had the proper length of time to determine the possible long-term effects of it, as well as others who choose to refuse it because they've already got antibodies from having Covid themselves as millions of people have. Americans should be able to choose that safety level for themselves and their families and not be forced to do so by government officials, especially those like our brainless VP who told the world she would refuse to take it because Trump was instrumental in developing it. Should I feel bad for the guy when his choice not to vaccinate cost him his life? Not really, since he knew the risks when he made his decision not to take it. Likewise, I don't really feel that bad for someone dying from drug abuse, being shot by a cop when breaking the law, or even dying from alcoholism or cigarette smoking. I respect the fact that they made their choice freely, and part of that is accepting the negative consequences of their actions.
And even though I've been vaccinated, I don't need a government nanny to tell me what's good for me.
