When I get home I drop the magazine, make sure it is clear, put it on safe and then put the 13 round magazine in don't rack the slide. Then I put it down on the dresser or lock it in the safe. Later, if I pick it up I make sure it is on safe, drop the mag and rack the slide to make sure it is empty.
