For a supposed carpenter, he was a farmer and shepherd (his father was a stone mason), he never did so much as nail two boards together to build a "church". He was the church. When you gather in His name with others you are the church, and when you pray alone to God, as dictated by Jesus in the Gospels, you are a practicing Christian.
