It is absolutely the issue. Sex is biological, gender is social/cultural. Don't like the way somebody else chooses to live their life? Too ****' bad. The mental health business has always worked like this...initial session...we say hi, introduce ourselves and...during the intro the client says...
Client: "...And I'm non-binary."
Me: "Any concerns about that?"
Client: "Outside of some feedback from several ignorant family members, nope no concerns."
Me: "Good, if the family issue becomes problematic let me know...so what do you want to talk about today?"
Unless they're clinically psychotic, which non-binary people typically aren't...we discuss issues that need to be resolved.
