Iran aims to avoid using mazut at power plants this winter but may have to burn it if energy consumption does not fall and imports prove insufficient, the head of the government’s energy optimization agency said on Friday. Esmail Saghab-Esfahani said the amount burned would depend on conservation by households and industry, as well as the availability of energy imports. He said it was too early to estimate how much mazut might be used.
