Racism, by and large, is and has wained with each passing generation, and will continue to do so naturally. Hatred for another is taught, and I personally believe that constantly preaching division to the youth isn't helping. It's moving backwards.
When you tell a room full of elementary kids that little Tommy's great grandaddy probably owned little Deonte's great grand daddy and subjected him to the horrors of slavery, that's creating animosity not healing... in my opinion.
Healing is creating a society where Tommy and Deonte see each other as equals, and are treated as such. Telling Tommy he "owes" Deonte for his ancestors past transgressions is ridiculous. At that point you are pitting the two kids against each other, instead of bringing them together, and it's counterproductive.
I don't believe racism is taught, it's learned from first hand exposure, observational awareness, and personal desires.....I prefer to keep company with people like myself....is that racist, I think not.
