shirtly after akhenaten died, the volcano at Santorini exploded which caused events in Egypt very similar to the '12 plagues' of Egypt. Most of the Egyptians took this as a bad omen and that the old gods were angry that they were no longer worshipped. This caused a civil war, and king tut, the son of akhenaten, actually sided with the people who wanted to return to the old gods. So the followers of Aten were in fact forced from Egypt and had to wander the desert.
and of course they did the most typical Jewish hallmark thing. They took the grievance against them and transformed it by reframing the story into evidence of their superiority.
In Canaan, they outlawed saying the name of god...i guess you could call it the first hate speech legislation. And that is why what we understand now about Judaism uses canaanite words for the gods and is in the canaanite language. ( the pre jewish canaanite creater god was actually an evil sea serpent similar to the babylonian tiamat, which was called yaww. In hebrew this is YW. It is easy to see how this evolved to YHWH, the god of judaism). Because hews did not want canaanites to become aware that their religion was being imposed on them by a foreign people (another typical Jewish tactic). The canaanites are in fact the distant ancestors of the modern day palestinian, so the Jewish journey has kinda come full circle in a funny way.
anyway there are a lot of well known links with the Aten, a god inspired by egyptian/ jewish Maat, and early judaism. One of the early psalms (104) is just an obvious rip off of akhenatens 'hymn to the great Aten'. When jews are left to their own devices, their architectural aesthetics are very Egyptian (large undecorated geometric edifiices)...they are as obsessed eith death and memory as the ancient Egyptians were, and they physically do look like ancient Egyptian pharaohs (check out thr mummy of ramses ii). The origin of secret societies and esotericism is Egyptian, which jews have always loved and excelled at. Etc. The more you get used to this historical fact the more you can see it and the more you can understand Jewish psychology.
does the average jew know this aspect of their history? No. But this knowledge probably is preserved in some esoteric jewish secret society (which is a very Egyptian thing to do). In fact Sigmund Freud himself started connecting some of these dots, probably inspired by his crusade against Christianity (see myth and monotheism)...but he seemed to just get a memo that he needed to stop and he did in fact quickly stop and abandon the whole theory without much of an explanation.
