I did a bit of reading and discovered I did not use the right term all along.
The term I meant to use was CONGENITAL, not genetic. I also do not believe there are scientifically vetted (properly) studies showing that there is an existence of a "gay gene."
(If there are I would look at them)
However, there are various hormonal interactions and processes from the time of conception -> birth that can affect e.g. the likelihood of homosexuality. Since we are talking about sexual orientation, that would be a good place to look.
As for the moral quandary, I will say that the topic is not of interest to me. If the goal is to minimize pedophilia, then it wouldn't matter if they are humiliated, imprisoned, or even executed.
Well fundamentally being gay has to be genetic in a sense cause without genes we wouldn't even have a brain or have sex. Even when aspects of your behavior has some environmental cause, it is also genes which allow the environment have that impact on you. So it isn't accurate to think in terms of environment versus genetics. It's like baking a cake. The genes are the ingredients. You can't bake a cake without the ingredients but also just the ingredients aren't enough. The two compliment each other.
Naturally there are intrinsic issues with determining how 'heritable' homosexuality is...because depending on your definition, having a child might preclude being homosexual...but it simply has to be the case that certain combinations of genetics must make you more pr less 'at risk' for homosexual behavior, because genes ultimately are behind everything to some extent.
