thus the people who fought against monarchy were called nationalists, especially if they were from a distinct ethnic group. scottish nationalists, irish nationalists, etc.
a nationalist can easily be opposed to the state that rules him.
people are not the same thing as state. period. no matter how much people try to manipulate our language to make it seem that way.
a white nationalist, seeking sovereignty for whites, would necessarily be opposed to the current US government, which condemns and persecutes such ambitions. a white nationalist cannot be a patriot, and a patriot cannot be a white nationalist.
