Russia wants the majority Russia population of East Ukraine. That is easily governable. They could in fact take a tad more than they did in 2016. Putin is rebuilding the USSR. He said as much, today.
But if the issue turns into Ukrainian ethnic sovereignty that will open a whole can of worms that not only Russia wants opened. Poland eoukd be dragged into it as eell...because polish birders are fake and they have a large % of ethnic Ukrainians in their own eastern side.
Literally nobody wants this. Not Russia and not nato. There will be plenty of bluffing, no action.
