While the Socialist Left is more visible and vocal than it has been in years that doesn't mean its strong enough politically to challenge the Capitalist status quo. And for various reasons that's a good thing. But that's not the point. The question is what kind of Capitalism are we going to have?

The Political Right favors deregulated markets with lower taxes on corporations and big business. They think growth and innovation unhindered by government interference is the key to prosperity and individual freedom. They are confident that the market will work out any problems. Furthermore, Conservatives think economic inequality is a reflection of those who do the right things versus others who make bad choices.

Liberals think you need strong rules to protect workers, consumers, the environment, and the marketplace itself. Liberals also want higher taxes on the wealthy to pay for a Welfare State to help the needy and meat individual's needs markets don't like health insurance for poor people and the disabled. Liberals are not against wealth income inequality until the disparities are extreme because that means more poverty, a less secure middle class, and a government that favors wealthy elites. Ultimately Liberals want to use government power to make Capitalism work for everybody. In this way growth and prosperity are the basis for material well-being and individual freedom.

I favor the Liberal approach to Capitalism.
