One of the really good things about YouTube over the years has been videos of television programs from the 1950s a1960s especially the comedies and variety shows. Most of the time it's brief clips. But on rare occasion you get a full episode. Being able to see everything from I Love Lucy to the Ed Sullivan Show is a real treat for me. And unless you're an ethusiast of The Golden Age of Television there are shows most people might never think about like Sid Ceaser's Your Show of Shows or the short lived Nat King Cole Show.
What is striking is how popular singers like Frank Sinatra appeared on regular TV. Moreover when singers like Andy Williams or Dinah Shore had their own programs they hosted other singers even performing duets and medlies. It seemed like these entertainers admired and respected each other. They seem to enjoy performing together.
I've got a chance to see Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner do the Thousand Year Old Man comedic routine. As a Black man listening to my parents talk about black comics like Redd Foxx before Sanford and Son and the legendary Moms Maberly to see her on 1960s TV is great ! I'm old enough to have seen the Carol Burnett Show many times in the seventies. But YouTube has allowed me to watch others I was too young to remember like Dean Martin, Red Skelton, and of course the ground breaking Laugh In.
