No one said "let's be stupid", Bob. Russia has made a series of mistakes. Costly mistakes. Mistakes that cost the US very little in terms of real capital and even human capital. Mistakes which are forever written into the "Book of Opportunity" as a strategic blunder benefiting a less benevolent United States.

What happened is that Russia stepped in to help individuals who were not interested in a hostile corporation takeover. Hostile corporations that will be growing genetic modified food in toxic depleted uranium soils and dumping fluoride into their water supplies, etc.
