Big ag corporations, with the help of big government, have been destroying family farms and ranches for decades.
As a banker in the 80's and 90's I witnessed the demise of small family dairies. As the ag loan officer I, at one time, was handling the finances of 7 small dairies milking from 120 cows to as many as 500 cows in the county. There were a few more that banked elsewhere. Today they are all gone.
Recently in Castro County, Texas, south of Lubbock, a mysterious explosion and resulting fire at the South Fork Dairy Farm killed 18,000 head of dairy cows.
100 years ago my great grandfather sent two of my great uncles to legal school with money they earned from the non subsidized farm and they incorporated a few small town banks. The farm and the banks were lost in the 1930s and its becoming more difficult to have any kind of a business bank account in 2023.
