Several states and cities are moving to ban ballot drop boxes before this year’s election, citing concerns over voter fraud that emerged during the 2020 election. In Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, state and local leaders are taking steps to eliminate the drop boxes that became common during the pandemic.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) issued a directive limiting the use of drop boxes to individual voters, barring anyone from submitting another voter’s ballot. Those assisting disabled voters must sign a document certifying their compliance with state and federal law.
