Xi is playing the long game. The only problem is that he will have at least 4 years of Trump to get through. I don't see Xi making a deal with Trump. Xi doesn't care much about China's citizens suffering. In fact, he expects it of them.
The only way for Trump to win this against China and get a deal is to:
- Figure out what he wants most from China and stand firm on that. Maybe farm or auto exports, and get China out of the Panama Canal
- Give in on a bunch of other stuff that China won't back down from.
- Keep tariffs on China at 15%.
Then, do everything in his power to move Taiwan Semicondocutor, Foxconn and pharmaceutical manufacturing to the United States.
